Basics of Animation

Morning begins with the Basics of Animation and setting up your program, curriculum, lesson plans, costs for equipment and consumable, books, video tapes, resources and the academic side of a successful program.

This is the one that will get you started with all of the information that no one else has. Lightfoot Ltd. is the only company offering inside information on how to make this work in the public schools because Nataha Lightfoot has proven it in the classroom. This approach can teach anyone how to make it work at any school. It works with Special Ed to AP and everything in between. The curriculum is built around the "State Framework and Standards" and the assessment tools are included in this startup workshop. This will save you 2 years of research.

You will also experience hands on with the drawing process for animation, character design made simple, charting, pencil testing your first animation movement.

The Afternoon will be the introduction to compound movement which will include the wing cycle, the four legged run and the walk cycles. You will explore timing and traditional pencil testing and how to teach it. You will use tools of the trade such as pencil testers, light boxes, animation discs and pegbars. You will produce the drawings and a tape to take into the classroom as an example for your students. You will get an introduction to the digital side that you will need to include in your classroom. You will learn how to grade with digital tools and not take drawings home with you. Your time is valuable!

Retas Pro Software

The morning will consist of hands on with Retas doing scanning, digital ink and paint to exposure sheets and out to the finished product by compositing with CoreRetas. Once they can animate, you will want to take it to color. Retas Pro is the least expensive with the most effective tools on the market today. It has the best pricing for education and the shortest learning curve. Spend your time producing, not learning the tools.

Afternoon will consist of compositing, which is the most complex portion of the digital domain. You will master this in one day with camera moves, pans, multi-layering with effects and camera moves that will change your attitude about the computer. You will have the ability to take one set of drawings of a bird and create a whole flock with different colors, moving at various speeds and change their sizes. This computer program will give you the same tools as the pros at a fraction of the cost. Retas is the program that was used for Princess Mononoke...that says it all.

Digital Tools for Audio
& Cleanup and Inbetweening

The morning will consist of Intro to Traditional Cleanup and Inbetweening (three approaches) and how to teach it. Hands on drawing, eye training and a steady hand are great, but you need to know what to look for and how to teach the students what to see. You will also experience reading charts, key framing, breakdowns and inbetweening.

The afternoon will consist of recording, editing and digital exposure sheets Lip sync brings the characters to life. You will learn the tools to bring the student's voices to life on the screen as their characters, how to edit and alter pitch, created the exposure sheet and how to use it to animate against to make the animation frame accurate.

Intro to BoardMaster Software for digital storyboards and animatics w/audio attached. This tool is the perfect solution for the student's Digital Portfolios. Bring still images in from a scanner or digital camera. Save shots of their sketchbooks, paintings, ceramics and other art projects, add their voice for narration and play it back full screen as an Animatic. Now you can use this tool put student portfolios up on the web and they take a copy home on VHS tape. It does more than just storyboard! It becomes the magic you've been looking for.

Intro to Non-Linear Editing with Final Cut Pro

Morning is the Intro to the Mac and i-Move, then integrate this great tool with Final Cut Pro and you have the ultimate in non-linear editing on the market today. Hands on with digital editing is a must with non-linear editing.

You will learn to combine tools for the most effective use of the non-linear editing of audio, video and still images. Bring them all together with Title Pages, Wipes, Fades and Scrolling Credits that will be put out to the format of your choice. It will save to tape, CD ROM, HTML for the web or Quick Time.

In the afternoon you will learn chromakey and how to composite live action into cartoons as well as cartoons into live action. Everything that the studios can do ...you and your students can do in the classroom.

This is the solution that every teacher has been looking for. It is affordable and easy to use. Now you can get the images off of the computer with software and hardware for less than you thought.
